It’s that time of year!
If you haven’t seen the Christmas episode of Community, pause reading this and do it now. SO FUNNY!
Anyway, when I do gift guides I like to suggest affordable items. Some of the gift guides I’ve seen have items that cost more than $500! And while I envy people who have that much disposable income, the average person tends to be on more of a budget. That is why the most expensive item on my list is $64. You can buy useful and thoughtful gifts for the hiker in your life without breaking the bank.
I put together a list of items that your hiker will use right away and not have to wait until Spring to bust out on the trails. 🙂
Even better, I have a couple giveaways for two lucky readers!
Hillsound has offered to giveaway a pair of trail crampons and Showers Pass is giving away a pair of waterproof socks! *** The giveaway is now over. See below for winners. ***
Trail Crampon
Armadillo LT Gaiter
Price: $49.00
The Armadillo LT Gaiters were designed to meet the demand for affordable, high performance gaiters for outdoor enthusiasts. The lightweight and breathable construction is guaranteed to keep your legs, socks, and feet dry during your outdoor adventures! Like all Hillsound gaiters, the Armadillo LT comes with a lifetime warranty.
Stanley Classic Thermos
Price: $19.81
My grandpa had a Stanley thermos that he would fill with hot coffee or soup when he worked at the refinery plant in -40C weather. I received one for Chistmas a few years ago and love packing it along on my winter adventures full of hot coffee.
You can find one on Amazon here!
Showers Pass Waterproof Gloves
Price: $64.00
I always thought to keep hands dry, you needed big old ski gloves but not so. Showers Pass has lightweight gloves with three layers of tough waterproof protection and a breathable knit lining so your fingers stay cozy. They also have silicone detailing on the palm to grip your ski poles, handle bars, etc.
I received a pair and can’t wait to leave my puffy waterproof gloves at home in favour of these.
Showers Pass Waterproof Crew Socks
Price: $46
I could have used a pair of these on the Mt. Vimy hike where I slogged through a couple creeks. Just like their gloves, 3-layers keep these socks waterproof; a wear resistant knit exterior (feels like a regular sock), a waterproof breathable Artex membrane, and a Coolmax FX moisture wicking anti-bacterial lining. The result is a sock that feels like a sock but protects like a rain bootie.
See the bottom of this post on how you can win a pair of Showers Pass waterproof socks!
Better Ice Scraper
Price: $12.99
This is such a great stocking stuffer! For winter enthusiasts, coming back to a snow or ice covered windshield is common (and annoying.) I liked this better than a normal big plastic ice scraper because it fits in the glove box. A Better Ice Scraper is a faster, smarter, easier way to clear your windshield than traditional ice scrapers (or your credit card).
First Aid Kit
This is something that you never think you need, until you do! I was caught in a situation where we needed a first aid kit and wound up wrapping an open wound with our shirts.
This is a great, practical gift you can order on Amazon here.
Windproof Toque
I LOVE my windproof toque from Bench Canada. They don’t carry them anymore, but this lined toque is essential when on the side of a cold, windy mountain! Any hiker will appreciate adding one to their outerwear collection!
I found a line of them on Amazon that come in six different colours so go check them out!
